Georgia Strawberries R Xcellent This Year!
Berries are sweet and firm at Middle Georgia U-Pick Farms. And some farms even pick for visitors in advance so you can pick them up on your way home.

I’d venture a guess that no matter where you are in Georgia this Spring, there is a strawberry field waiting for you to U-Pick! The weather has been fairly dry so if the plants are irrigated in raised, plastic-covered hills, there are more than enough strawberries for you and a car-full of your nearest & dearest.

Hit the internet to see which U-Pick is closest to you… Explore Georgia‘s blog post from a couple years ago is still a super resource to find THE place. Call to make sure the farm you select is opened and has plenty of berries before you go.

Bill Ronay & I went to our usual place, Washington Farms, in the Watkinsville/Athens area. Through May 14, Saturdays are Super. Wagon Rides, a Petting Zoo, a Cow Train, a Jumping Pillow, a Corn Box, Duck Races and  a lot of other activities entertain the whole family. Of course, most any picking day, freshly made strawberry ice cream is THE favorite for family members ages 2-100.

It took maybe 20 minutes for each of us to pick a bucket of perfect, sweet berries. We had an insulated sack in the trunk that we put our bounty into so that the 45-minute trip home would be an easy transition. Then, we sat in the car – there are many choice spots on the Farms grounds – and slurped down a big cup of ice cream. Don’t take my word for it… go on the outing yourself and see if that isn’t the most fun you’ve had in the sunshine but not at a beach!

Picking is quick and easy. Even husbands look forward to what the strawberries will become when they get home...

Washington Farms will have fruit and fun through most of the rest of the year. Strawberries are usually gone in June; blueberries and blackberries start in June; pumpkins, a Corn Maze, sunflowers and Fall Farm Activities ramp up in the Fall.

See who wants to go with you. You’ll be a regular U-picker just like we are!

Teamwork – Galleries and Their Artists

It started innocently enough. One of my Facebook friends, Catherine M Foster, an artist  in Poulsbo Washington, mused that she’d like to put together a list of the qualities of her dream art galleries. She wrote “I figure if I have 3-4 galleries like Dragonfire, I do not need anything more to make the kind of living I […]
