Visit the Georgia Peach Packing Sheds
We’re about out of peaches this year! The season here in Georgia is about 16 weeks long – from mid-May through August. This year, they’ve been the juiciest, sweetest, most flavorful fruits anyone remembers!
You can still get just-picked Georgia peaches at roadside stands and farmer’s markets, but you’ve got to look for them.
There’s a lot to be said about getting them at the source.
The following four Family Farms entertain with tours of their packing sheds. You can see the peaches as they are offloaded from the field; then watch as they are washed, separated, graded and packed. MAKE SURE YOU CALL BEFORE YOU GO! THE SEASON MAY BE OVER FOR THESE GROWERS!
Besides the peaches you’ll snack on during the trip home, enjoy some peach ice cream while you rock on the porch and talk to other visitors. Don’t miss buying some prepackaged Georgia jams & jellies for the wintertime. Spreading that beautiful peach jam on an English Muffin will bring your outing to the peach packing sheds back to mind to relive with every bite.
